to rebuild your body by leaving your plate empty for a few meals a week.
As all new fads go… this
one might come and go. And yet, there
are some interesting points being presented in a TEDx talk given by
Neuroscientist and professor, Mark Mattson.
This topic can seem thick
with science.. so, here are the main points to discover and how you can benefit
from intermittent fasting.
What you need to know…
This is research about your
cellular and molecular mechanisms that affect multi-symptom diseases like
Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, Diabetes and Neuropathy, Metabolic Syndrome, and a
slew of other autoimmune diseases.
“Calorie restriction (CR)
extends life span and retards age-related chronic diseases in a variety of
species, including rats, mice, fish, flies, worms, and yeast. The mechanism or
mechanisms through which this occurs are unclear.” – Dr Mattson
Science is unclear because
we do not have the microscopic lenses that can see the 4-nanometer thick cell

Can our microscopes
see the cell membrane in action?
How big is our cell
membrane? Not big at all.. in fact it is so tiny that it is impossible to be
seen with even the strongest microscope on the planet. It should then make us
all wonder how biologists can design synthetic pills and food and produce them
for mass consumption without knowing exactly how the cell is responding to the
foreign material. Maybe this is the root of metabolic conditions and premature
illness.
The cell lining is where
cell energy, ATP, is created.
Scientists guess at what is
good or bad to eat, and when to eat, based on a type of biology study called

Let’s Dive Into The
Research ….
Dr. Mattson and his team
have published several papers that discuss how fasting twice a week could significantly lower the risk
of developing both Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
“Dietary changes have long
been known to have an effect on the brain. Children who suffer from epileptic
seizures have fewer of them when placed on caloric restriction or fasts. It is believed that fasting helps kick-start
protective measures that help counteract the overexcited signals that epileptic
brains often exhibit. (Some children with epilepsy have also benefited from a
specific high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet.) Normal brains, when overfed, can
experience another kind of uncontrolled excitation, impairing the brain’s
function, Mattson and another researcher reported in January in the journal
Nature Reviews Neuroscience.”(source)
Basically, when you take a
look at caloric restriction studies, many of them show a prolonged lifespan as
well as an increased ability to fight chronic disease.
What Benefit Does Fasting Offer…
Fasting does good things for the brain, and this is evident by all of
the beneficial neuro-chemical changes that happen in the brain when we fast. It
also improves cognitive function, increases stress resistance, and reduces
inflammation.
Fasting is a challenge to
your brain, and your brain responds to that challenge by adapting stress
response pathways which help your brain cope with stress and
risk for disease.
The same changes that occur
in the brain during fasting mimic the changes that occur with regular exercise.
They both increase the production of protein in the brain, which in turn
promotes the growth of neurons, the connection between neurons, and the
strength of synapses.

He also goes into the
evolutionary aspect of this theory – how our ancestors adapted and were built
for going long periods of time without food.
A study published in the
June 5 issue of Cell Stem Cell by researchers from the University of Southern
California showed that cycles of prolonged fasting protect
against immune system damage. They concluded that fasting shifts
stem cells from a dormant state to a state of self-renewal. It triggers stem cell-based regeneration
of an organ or system.

A scientific review of
multiple scientific studies regarding fasting was published in The American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2007. It examined a multitude of both human
and animal studies and determined that fasting is an effective way to reduce the
risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. It also showed significant
potential in treating diabetes.

Mark Mattson is the current
Chief of the Laboratory of Neurosciences at the National Institute on Aging. He
is also a professor of Neuroscience at The Johns Hopkins University. Mattson is
one of the foremost researchers in the area of cellular and molecular
mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease,
Parkinson's Disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring
people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video
and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small

Before You
Fast…
Before you fast, make sure
you do your research. Personally, I use food as a way of feeding my body… and
listen to when my body tells me to give my digestion a rest. I always make sure to drink plenty of water
during my times of no food. And, of
course, … please check with your physician prior to starting any change in your
diet.

If you want to follow along with a “plan” … One recommended way of doing it —
which was tested by the BBC’s Michael Mosley in order to reverse his diabetes,
high cholesterol, and other problems that were associated with his obesity — is
what is known as the “5:2 Diet.” It
works on calorie consumption – not a plan I would suggest following if you’re
not into counting calories.
On the 5:2 plan, you cut
your food down to one-fourth of your normal daily calories on fasting days
(about 600 calories for men and about 500 for women), while consuming plenty of
water and tea. On the other five days of the week, you can eat normally.

This is the way I would
suggest trying. It is far more organic
and fits the behaviour of many lifestyles.
The whole idea is to
restrict your food intake between the hours of 11 am and 7 pm daily, while not
eating during the hours outside of that time. This is Old School eating
habits. The kind of eating habits your
great grandparents had… when food was homemade and chosen to feed your body
what it needs, and long before we had access to easy food on every corner, 24
hours a day.
This plan is
super easy to follow and mostly gives your digestive system a chance to “catch
up” and “relax”. And.. during these
times of relaxation, your body can return to chemical balance

What the world needs now is
NOT more doctors; hospitals and drugs.
The world NEEDS less
sick-people.
Have YOU ever wondered why
people become sick? Is it just chance or is it something they have done that
causes the sickness? Why does it not happen the same to everyone? How do you
prevent sickness, or heal yourself, if you are sick already?
You will NOT find the
answers to these questions in heathen temples, full of false gods - HOSPITALS,
or in small shrines that house one false god - a G.P.'s surgery.
There is only ONE place to
find the answer and cure. I say answer and cure in the singular because there
is only ONE for ALL and ALL for ONE.
What I am going to tell you
next will probably sound simplistic but then the simple things of Life are
always the best.
The cure for EVERY sickness
is in the Bible and the best translation is the new "King of kings'
Bible", Authorised by God to replace the previous earthly-king's
Authorised Version, which is known as The king James Bible and before you pooh!
pooh! that statement and WRONGLY think that the Bible is about churches and
Organised-Religions.
The Bible itself CONDEMNS churches; priests
and Religions.
SURPRISED?
You wouldn't be if you had
read it properly, YOURSELF. Just bear with me and give me the "benefit of
the doubt" and read on, with an open mind. What have you got to lose?
Only your health and life,
if you don't.
The Ruler of the Universe
and "healer of ALL ills" (Sura 26:80-81) has told YOU, in His Word,
that sickness and death came into the world through sin. That means, in plain
language, ignoring His Advice and listening to Satan's advice (the serpent in
the "Garden of Eden") and following his advice instead of God's.
Simple enough!
So, because sickness and
death came into the world (the Adamic Race) with sin, then the obvious and
logical way to remove sickness and death from the Adamic Race (you) is by
removing the sin and then the sickness will go with it.
It IS that SIMPLE!
Simple it IS! Easy it is
NOT!
Why? You have become so accustomed to living with sin and following
Satan and his scientist's; politician's; economist's; priest's; doctor's and
lawyer's advice that it has become "second-nature" and a very hard
habit to break. Ever tried to stop smoking; drinking; eating too much or other
bad-habits? Doing any or all of those is easy compared to keeping the
COMMANDments, and "Breaking the COMMANDments seriously damages YOUR health."
God gave you good advice
and you CHOSE to ignore it, and, just as He told you you would become sick and
die, if you listened to Satan - you have been doing for 6000 years. Isn't it ime you stopped?
God told you the TRUTH as
John 1 v 1 tells you. "In the beginning was the Word (TRUTH) with
God" (not with Satan). The TRUTH (Word) was with God NOT with Satan the
Devil (devil means LIAR) or his followers who eat from his tree of
"so-called" knowledge, which is NOT knowledge (science means
knowledge) but LIES (falsely so called as Paul puts it in
1
Timothy 6 v 20):- scientists; politicians; economists; priests; doctors; and
lawyers etc.; etc., who have ALL been deceived into thinking that they know how
to put things right. You only have to open your eyes (ye blind) and
"SEE", from the state of the world and your lives and the history of
the last 6000 years, that they do not have a clue or know anything, of any
value.
The TRUTH is the only thing
of value and God says so (treasure - Matt. 13 v 44). You would do well to seek
it and buy it (Matt. 6 v 19-21 & 13 v 43-46)(Exodus 19 v 5) and the health
and well-being that it gives you.
The Ruler of the Universe
gave you The Way to return, to Him and His Ways and Advice, through His Rule
Book - the Bible, which is divided into 2 Covenants (contracts) or Testaments.
Like any contract it has
clauses specifying what each party to the Covenant must do in order to reap the
benefit. If you break it, it also specifies the penalty or punishment you
receive.
The word British, from whom
the English speaking peoples of the world have sprung, means "The People
of the Covenant", in Hebrew (the language of the Old Covenant /
Testament).
So if you are reading this
Booklet, in English, it applies to YOU and means that you come under The
Covenant and its blessings for keeping it and punishment (curses) for breaking
it.
