10 Different Types of Fasts in the Bible
1. The Disciples’ Fast (Matthew 17:21) – For deliverance from
sin, addiction,
bondage.
If we fast, we can break the power of sins and addictions that limit our
freedom
in Christ.
2. The Ezra Fast (Ezra 8:21-23) – For God’s help in
solving problems and for
protection
from Satan. Ezra said that they prayed and fasted and God answered
their
request.
3. The Samuel Fast (1 Samuel 7:6) - For revival. The
people were bound by idol
worship
and needed deliverance. Samuel called them to seek God and to bring the
Ark
back to Jerusalem. If we fast and pray for revival, God will pour Himself out
on
His people.
4. The Elijah Fast (1 Kings 19:4-8) - Mental freedom from
emotional problems or
habits.
Through fasting, God will show us how to overcome emotional problems
and
destructive habits.
5. The Widow’s Fast (1 Kings 17:9-16) – Fasting to
provide for the needy. The
widow
went without food to meet the physical needs of someone else. Because
she
sacrificed her food, God made sure that she had more than enough food.
6. Paul Fast (Acts 9:9) - For physical healing and
to get direction from God. If we
fast
and submit our will to God, He will reveal His will to us.
7. The John the Baptist Fast (Luke 1:15) - To enhance our walk with
God and
witness.
If we fast for the influence of our testimonies to reach others for Christ,
God
will use us.
8. The Esther Fast (Esther 4:16, 5:2) – For protection
from the evil one. If we fast
for
protection, God will deliver us from evil.
9. The Jesus Fast (Matthew 4:1-2) - For spiritual power
and victory over
temptation,
the flesh and the devil.
10. The Daniel Fast (Daniel 1: 5-21; 10:3) – Fasting for
health and to seek God’s
favour, purpose and vision for life.
Ways to Fast
• Normal Fast – No food, water only.
• Absolute Fast – Absolutely no food or water (Caution:
Should not be undertaken
over
3 days and only then if you have a clear directive from the Lord and are in
good
health).
• Partial Fast – This could mean fasting certain meals
of the day or abstaining from
certain
kinds of foods (i.e.: No meat or sweets, soup only, fruit and vegetables
only,
etc. In Daniel 10:3, Daniel ate no pleasant bread).
• Juice Fast – Fruit and vegetable juices only.
• Corporate Fast – A church or group of people who feel
God has called them to
fast
together for a certain period of time.
• Jewish Fasting Period – The Jewish fast began at 6:00 P.M. in
the evening and
ended
the next day at 6:00 P.M. (Some people follow this time period to begin and
end
fasts.)
• Fasting Plus Prayer — Remember, fasting should be combined
with prayer. God
called
us to fast and pray. If you are fasting a certain meal of the day, use the time
you would normally be eating to pray.
The combination of prayer and fasting is a powerful way to focus on seeking God
for breakthroughs and answers to prayer.
• Fasting and Abstinence — Although the word “fast” is used as
abstaining from
food
in the Bible and does not refer to giving up other things, during a fast one
can
practice abstinence from other
pleasures as well, such as enter
Sugar and Its Many Negative Side Effects
Dr. Mary
Ruth Swope
Nancy Appleton, PhD.,
lists 59 reasons why white sugar ruins your health.
Her book, THE SUGAR HABIT, lists the bibliographical reference for each reason
given. For my purpose in this presentation, I have selected eight very
important reasons why your intake of sugar should be controlled:
1. Sugar
suppresses the immune system.
Eating or drinking too much sugar curbs immune system
cells that attack bacteria. This effect lasts for at least a few hours after
downing a couple of sugary drinks. Eat more fruits and vegetables, which are
rich in nutrients like vitamins C and E, plus beta-carotene and zinc.
American Journal of
clinical Nutrition,
November, 1973, pp.
1180-84.
2. Sugar
causes hyperactivity, anxiety, difficulty in concentration and crankiness in
children.
Appleton, Nancy, LICK
THE SUGAR HABIT, 1968, p.16.
3. Sugar
can cause arthritis.
Lancet, February 6,
1986, pp. 236-238.
4. Sugar
can cause kidney damage.
British Journal of
Medicine, November 22, 1980, 281-1396.
5. Sugar
can produce an acid stomach.
The gastric chief cells of the stomach secrete enzymes
for protein breakdown (inactive pepsinogen, and in infancy rennin).
Hydrochloric acid activates pepsinogen into the enzyme pepsin, which then helps
digestion by breaking the bonds linking amino acids, a process known as
proteolysis.
Duffy, W., SUGAR
BLUES, N.Y., Warner Books, 1976.
6. Sugar
can cause hypoglycaemia
Deficiency of glucose in the bloodstream.
Duffy, W., SUGAR
BLUES, N.Y., Warner Books, 1976.
7. Sugar
can cause migraine headaches.
Lancet, 1:955-957,
(1979).
8. Sugar
can cause hunger pains and overeating.
Hunger and hyperglycemia
This lack of energy causes an increase in hunger. Simply
eating will not get rid of the hungry feeling of polyphagia in people with
uncontrolled diabetes, as this will just add to the already high blood glucose
levels.

(October, 1982) 490-491.
Keep in mind that Dr. Appleton lists an additional 51
symptoms caused by the consumption of too much white sugar!

knowledge to make good choices within our environment.
The mission of That
Sugar Movement is to forever change the way we think about “healthy” food,
founded by Damon Gameau as writer and director of That Sugar Film and now
boasts a community of more than 400,000 people wanting
to live and feel better through balanced eating.
The film that will
change the way you think about "healthy" foods!
THAT SUGAR MOVEMENT
was born from the success of That Sugar Film, Australia’s highest earning
cinema documentary which raised global awareness of the impact of hidden sugars
on people’s health.
THAT SUGAR FILM is
one man’s journey to discover the bitter truth about sugar. Damon Gameau
embarks on a unique experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet on
a healthy body, consuming only foods that are commonly perceived as “healthy.”
Through this
entertaining and informative journey, Damon highlights some of the issues that
plague the sugar industry, and where sugar lurks on supermarket shelves.
The film features
guest cameos from the likes of Stephen Fry, Isabel Lucas and Brenton Thwaites,
interviews with Gary Taubes, Michael Moss and Dr Kimber Stanhope plus a rocking
soundtrack including Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel and Florence and the Machine.

A few brave scientists and M.D.s are
now being vocal about what was reported as proven in 1960 and reported at an
International Nutrition Congress in Washington, D.C. – “Drinking cow’s milk is a no-no for human beings”.
Cow’s milk is designed perfectly to cause 50 pound calves at birth to grow into
1500 pound adults!
Humans
have no need for such a product and, in fact, our disease record is proving
that to be true.
A list of conditions caused by
drinking cow’s milk would include the following:
1. Far more people are unable than
able to digest lactose (milk sugar). High percentages of various populations
lose lactase by age two. Perhaps milk was not to be a part of the diet after
that age.
2. Milk drinking increases the risk of
lead poisoning in children. (University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI.)
3. Consumption of cow’s milk is a very
common cause of constipation in people of all ages. (J.A.M.A.,
October 28, 1974)
4. Bedwetting was stopped in 50% of
100 children when milk was removed from the diet. (Clinical Trends in Family
Practice, September-October, 1978).
5. Allergies are known to be caused or
aggravated by cows’ milk consumption. It is thought to be caused by the protein
content. Bronchitis and asthma along with rashes and hives are common symptoms.
6. Anemia develops in children on
cows’ milk but rarely among breast-fed infants even when milk is their sole
food for their first twelve to eighteen months. (Nutrition Reviews, v.
35, No. 8, August 1997).
7. Hyperactivity in children was shown
to dramatically decrease when milk in all forms was eliminated from the diet. (J.
Learning Disabilities, 12 (9):32-50, November, 1979).
8. Infant colic increases even when
the mothers of breast fed babies have been drinking cows’ milk.
There is more but this is enough. When
you study the composition of milk from different species, the Bible’s command
about milk makes scientific sense. Proverbs 27:27 “And thou shalt have goat
milk enough for thy
food,
for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance of thy maidens.”

God’s #1
Plan for Internal Detox
After careful study of the
74 Scriptures on fasting, I got the idea that fasting is included in God’s plan
for a total-health-package.
After 25 years of weekly
fasting, I affirm that fasting is a physiological miracle of healing that God
built into the human and animal kingdoms – at least rhinoceroses, elephants,
dogs, cats and other animals in addition to humans use it as a way to recoup
when they feel “under the weather.”
Some Spiritual benefits as
told in Isaiah 58: 1-12 are:
• Your health will return
speedily. vs. 8
• Your righteous will go
before you. vs. 8
• You will cry and God
will answer you. vs. 9
• The Lord will guide you
continually. vs. 11
• You will be like a
well-watered garden. vs. 11
Examples of Physical
Benefits (abstracted from a very long list):
• We lose weight easily.
• The immune system gets a
boast.
• Blood pressure,
cholesterol and fatty-acid levels normalize.
• Aging slows down.
• Addictions “give up.”
• Your blood detoxifies.
A final word of advice:
What pleasures you miss in
eating you will make up manifold in the joy of living.
The kinds of fast, how to
fast and how to come off a fast are given in detail in my book THE ROOTS
AND FRUITS OF FASTING.

UNDERSTANDING BIBLICAL
NUTRITION
Genesis 1:11: “And God said, ‘Let
the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree
yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth; and it
was so.’” This took place the third day of creation and God saw that it was
good.
Genesis 1:29: KJV “And God said, ‘Behold,
I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the
earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to
you it shall be for meat.’” This statement was made to Adam and Eve. From this
we see that the original diet that God planned for man is what we would call a
vegetarian diet.
Therefore:
Eat:
􀂾 All beans, legumes,
lentils, seeds & nuts. These are your main protein foods.
􀂾 All whole grains.
Barley, rice, wheat, oats, millet, corn, spelt, amaranth – any natural grain.
Use only whole grain breads. Boxed cereals are not whole grain.
􀂾 All fresh vegetables and
fruits. Eat as many of them raw as you can tolerate. Frozen or canned beggies
and fruits are better than none.
􀂾 Distilled or reverse
osmosis water only. Six to eight glasses of water daily is your goal.
􀂾 The key to disease
prevention or prevention is to eat a wide variety of veggies and fruits
and whole grains. The wider the better.
OMIT FROM
YOUR DIET:
It only takes about 8 months to one
year to turn sick cells into healthy cells.
􀂾 All
meat. All flesh, including fish, fowl and especially pork. (See
Explanation for additional details.)
􀂾 All
milk products unless you can purchase certified, unpasteurized milk.
See Proverbs 27:27.
􀂾 Eggs unless you can
purchase fertile farm eggs – then 3-5 per week.
ô€‚ľ “Man-made” products of all
kinds. i.e. Designer foods like Cool Whip are all dead foods. Dead foods make dead people.
􀂾 Most canned goods. A few
won’t kill you.
􀂾 All
white sugar and baked goods using white flour. Use whole wheat flour and
honey, maple syrup, molasses, fruit juice concentrates, dates, and raisins as
sweeteners.
􀂾 All
soft drinks. They contain phosphoric acid, too much sugar and artificial
products which soften
bones and cause many other health
problems.
􀂾 All
fruit juices except freshly squeezed ones. They have too much sugar for
sick cells unless you dilute them about one-half with water.
􀂾 NO
margarine. It is “plastic-like” and plugs arteries. Butter is OK.
􀂾 Water from your tap.
Chlorine and heavy metals produce free radicals which produce carcinogens.
􀂾 High
fat foods. Fried foods, sandwich meats like bologna, mayonnaise, snack
foods, nuts in large amounts, doughnuts, potato and other chips.
􀂾 Use cold pressed virgin olive
oil or canola oil in cooking.
􀂾 Coffee.
Not more than 1-2 cups per day. None if you have cancer. Use hot water with a
slice of lemon. This will help cleanse the liver, kidneys, and bladder.
Of course rest, exercise and a
positive mental attitude are also very important components of a health
lifestyle.
EXPLANATION:
Meat:
Genesis 9:2-3: gives us permission
to eat all animals and creeping things. The only reason meat of all animals and
creeping things. The only reason meat of all
kinds is off my list of foods to eat
is if you are chronically ill. Present day methods of producing animals for the
market – the antibiotics, hormones and drugs used are detrimental to the health
of people, especially those ill with such diseases as heart problems,
arthritis, diabetes, cancer, liver failure, kidney disease, etc.
Fat Foods:
Many studies have proven that a 20-30%
total fat calorie diet will help reverse various diseases, especially of the
heart, circulatory system and cancer. Here is how you calculate your fat calorie
intake:
Look at two figures on the label of
any food. See the number of fat grams (gms) and multiply it by 9.
Then, divide that number by the
calories per serving.
For example: my airlines potato chip
package said it had Gms of fat and 150 calories per serving. 10x9=90. 90
divided
By 150 = 60% fat. The label said, “No
cholesterol”—what a misleading bit of information!!! Our body produces
cholesterol from fatty foods.
The bottom line:
don’t buy any food that is more than 30% fat. You will easily control your
weight and your diseases by doing this.
ADDITIONAL RAW,
ORGANICALLY GROWN, WHOLE, “LIVE” FOOD
PRODUCTS THAT PROMOTE
THE HEALTH CELL CONCEPT:
􀂾 2-6 teaspoons of BarleyLife*
a day. Drink 30 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after a meal. Mix with
water or juice. *** If you consider yourself chronically ill, you may find 10
teaspoons of BarleyLife* a day to be helpful. Take 2 teaspoons every 2
hours, 5 times a day –always on an empty stomach. Start with 1 tsp. 20 minutes
prior to breakfast, then 2 tsp’s – one before breakfast and one at 3PM, later 3
tsp’s, etc.
􀂾 4 glasses a day of freshly
squeezed vegetable and fruit combinations. Use carrots as the basic ingredient.
􀂾 2 heaping teaspoons or more
of Just Carrots*. This may be considered a substitute for fresh juicing.
􀂾 2 PrepZymes* prior
to each meal.
􀂾 At least 2 heaping
teaspoons of Herbal Fiberblend* per day. A dirty colon produces and sustains
disease. Drink plenty of water to activate the fiber.

and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every
fowl of the air, upon all that move upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of

which is torn with beasts, may be used in any other use but you shall in no
wise eat of it.”
Lev. 2:4-5 “And if you bring an
oblation of a meat offering baked in the oven, it shall be unleavened (no yeast)

goat, hart, roebuck, fallow deer, wild goat, pygarg, wild ox and the chamois.
And every beast that parts the hoof and cleaves the cleft into two claws and
chews the cud among the beasts that you shall eat.
Nevertheless these you shall not eat
of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof: the camel,
hare and the coney for they chew the cud but divide not the hoof. Therefore
they are unclean to you. And the swine (pig) because it divides the hoof, yet
chews not the cud. It is unclean unto you. You shall not eat of
their flesh nor touch their dead
carcass. These you shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins
and scales shall you eat. And whatsoever has not fins and scales (shellfish,
etc) you may not eat. It is unclean unto you. Of all clean birds you shall
eat. But these are they of which you shall not eat: the eagle, ossifrage, glede,
kite, vulture, raven, owl, night hawk, cockow, hawk, little owl, great owl,
swan, pelican, gier eagle, cormorant, stork, heron, lapwing and the bat. Every
creeping thing that flies is unclean unto you. They shall not be eaten. But of
all clean fowls you may eat. You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself
for you are a holy
people unto the Lord your God.”
Lev. 11:2-23 “Speak unto the
children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which you shall eat among all the
beasts that are on the earth. Whatsoever parts the hoof, and is cloven footed,

you not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: the
camel because he chews the cud but divides not the hoof, he is unclean unto
you. The coney, because he chews the cud but divides not the hoof, he is
unclean unto you. The hare because he chews the cud but divides not the hoof,
he is unclean unto you. The swine (pig) though he divides the hoof and be cloven
footed yet he chews not the cud, he is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall you
not eat and the carcass shall you not touch. They are unclean to you. These
shall you eat of all that are in the water – whatsoever has fins and scales in
the waters, seas and river. These shall you eat. All that have not fins and

Nature's Healing Gifts
Dr. Mary Ruth Swope
GREEN VEGETABLES
Green
vegetables have become the focus for natural health and healing. Living
constituents of plants, and most importantly the chlorophyll, are receiving
much attention today. They have become health giants and are recognized
universally as necessities, not accessories. These jewels of nature are
consumed by all of the species of animals, birds and fish in one form or
another. Whether leaf or seed or sea plants each has a purpose to nourish,
cleanse and detoxify its environment both before and after consumption.
Fortunately, the varieties designed for humans are varied in their flavour and
texture so that just about anyone can find one or more to enjoy.
The
National Research Council has always recommended what any nutrition text book
will tell you,
YOU
NEED ONE SERVING DAILY OF A DARK GREEN LEAFY OR DEEP YELLOW VEGETABLE.
So let me ask you, how many servings of kale,
collards, turnip greens, mustard greens, spinach, beet tops, carrots, pumpkin,
squash or sweet potatoes have YOU had this week? You needed seven!
It's
a problem! We don't like deep green leafy and yellow vegetables. We don’t eat
them and increasingly we can't even find them where we're doing most of our
eating. Consequently, we are no longer getting enough deep yellow and dark
green foods
(
and especially not enough raw greens) to stay healthy.
Why
do we need a serving of deep green leafy vegetables every day? It is due to
their unique nutritional contribution to the body's requirements for health.
Green vegetables are excellent sources of complex carbohydrates (the best
kind), dietary fibre (so good for colon health), beta-carotene, and chlorophyll
and antioxidant activity. They are usually low in fat and high in minerals and
vitamins. They also contain phytochemicals that lower our risk of cancer.
One
special virtue of these veggies is their green colour - chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll in plants can be
compared to the blood supply in humans. “Life is in the blood" and the life of plants is in the chlorophyll.”
A
recent discovery adds more importance to our daily need for green vegetables.
When man (or animals) eats green plants, the blood molecules of the plant can
become the blood molecules of man by a process biochemists call porphyrin
biosynthesis. This then is the clincher.
God in His infinite wisdom provided perfectly
for the self-repairing, self-rejuvenating, self- energizing of the physical man
through chlorophyll – the blood of the plants.
So
think of this, without plants there would be no animal or human life on earth! Chlorophyll, the kind found only in green
vegetables, is absolutely essential to life.
And we need one-half of a cup daily to meet our need for health.
One
last thought. There is no substitute in nature for chlorophyll.
Your daily diet should include foods such as:
Turnip greens, collard greens, mustard
greens, beet tops, dandelions, broccoli, kale, deep green lettuce leaves,
parsley and other greens.
If
your diet is low on these foods, then you need to add a chlorophyll sources such
as AIM’s BarleyLife and AIM’s Leaf Greens. These two
sources of concentrated chlorophyll will meet your body’s needs. They are the
chemo-protectors, the chemo-preventers, chemo-attackers, chemo-reversers, yes,
chemo-healers.
If you
fail to eat green foods, you are failing to protect, reverse sickness or heal
your body's cells. Is that what you want? Only you can decide.
EATING TO AVOID OR REVERSE
THE "BIG C" -
CANCER
Dr. Mary Ruth Swope
Four nutrients are very
strongly correlated with cancer-free persons - Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin
E and Carotene. Selenium and Chromium are also "friendly
nutrients" in relation to cancer prevention/treatment.
Carcinomas respond well to
nutritional factors. Sarcomas, leukemias, lymphomas are less influenced by
dietary factors.
What are
the best foods to use as weapons against disease?
• Fruits & supplements
of Vitamin C
• Vegetables Vitamin E
& Beta-carotene
• Grains (oats, rye,
barley, millet) Selenium & Chromium
• Fiber intake to total
25-35 gms. daily (grains/vegetables)
• Lower fat calorie
intake to 30% of total calories (fewer foods from animal sources.)
• Eat more
"cruciferous" vegetables
a. Brussel sprouts &
Cauliflower
b. Cabbage Rutabagas
c. Broccoli Turnips
● Eat
more yellow foods
a. All kinds of squash
Carrots
b. Sweet potatoes,
Apricots
c. Pumpkin Canteloupe
● Eat
more deep-green leafy vegetables
a. Kale
Endive
b. Mustard
greens Turnip greens
c. Spinach
Beet tops
If you
are serious about cancer and your body, here are my nutritional suggestions:
1.Concentrated
chlorophyll: 1-2 tsps. of AIM’s BarleyLife daily. If I
had cancer I would consume from 6-10 tsps. of AIM’s BarleyLife
daily - 2 tsps. every few hours - always on an empty stomach. I
have presented the benefits of AIM’s BarleyLife in my
book: GREEN LEAVES OF BARLEY .
2. Concentrated protein
from plants: AIM’s LeafGreens is a powerful source of protein
from plants. It is a source of complete amino acids – without the fat of animal
protein. One to two tsps/day is all that is needed.
3. Concentrated vitamin
“A”: AIM’s JustCarrots supplies a variety of vitamins
and minerals in a concentrated form of carrots. Mix with water to release this
nutritional powerhouse. Two to three tsps per day meets your nutritional needs.
4. Essential fiber intake:
AIM’s Herbal Fiberblend is the easiest way to get the
necessary dietary fiber to clean and maintain a health colon. Start with 1 to 2
tsps per day and increase weekly until normal, regular elimination is
established.
5. If possible, avoid all
alcohol, caffeine, and sugar in all forms.
6. Avoid fried foods/
bar-b-qued meats/ soft drinks.
7. Drink 8 glasses of distilled water per
day.
The bottom line: Sick
cells can be changed into healthy cells through good nutrition. If I had a degenerative
disease (cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome
or a host of others), I would take even more drastic steps than the
Genesis 1:29 diet. I would eat only "live
foods" - raw fruits and raw vegetables including the AIM products listed
above. I would increase the suggested daily amounts until the stools become
very loose. Then, I would reduce the amounts slightly. The body is in a
survival fight and it needs all the nutritional ammunition you can supply.
68 Years of Nutritional Study
by Dr. Mary Ruth Swope
The
greatest lessons I have learned after 68 years of study, research and teaching
in the field of Foods and Nutrition, mostly at the university level, are these:
1.
Life can only come from life. “Dead food” makes dead people.
2.
Life begins, is maintained and ends at the cellular level. Doctors agree!
3.
Plant foods grown organically, served fresh, raw and unprocessed are our best
sources of life.
They
also are our best “medicines”. (The Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, said this
in 450 BC – before the birth of Jesus.)
4.
Man-made foods are “dead foods”; they cause disease and early death.
5.
International research studies have proven that the Israelite dietary laws, when followed, produce the
healthiest people on earth. (Genesis 1:29)
1:29
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon
the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a
tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
1:30
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to
everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein [there is] life, [I have
given] every green herb for meat:
and it was so.
6.
Herbs made from stems, roots, bark, leaves, fruit and blossoms of natural plants
outperform synthetic drugs to restore sick cells in almost all cases – and
without dangerous, expensive side-effects.
7.
The Bible declares barley leaves to be God’s champion food creation – the most
perfect and complete of all foods. Leviticus 23:9-11 (offerings had to be
perfect!)
8.
I believe almonds are God’s second most perfect food creation. They are a
near-perfect food. Like barley, they are a first fruit.
9.
I do not believe in the germ theory of disease.
Disease results when the
immune system is weak.
Poor
eating and lifestyle habits cause a weakened immune system. We are then
subjected to all kinds of disease because of a lack of fighter cells.
10.
The “Real Doctor” is in every
cell. He has a recipe for changing any sick cell into a healthy
one.
Man-made
drugs are needed only for crisis situations; Nutrients heal.
11.
We were made to have Divine health with an expected life-span of 120 years.
(Genesis 6:3)
12.
Following are the basic rules of a healthy diet. I am trusting God is the most
brilliant Scientist ever – and I hope you, too, will follow His advice for your
physical health. Here is the record of His advice:
A.
Plan A of the Original Diet for
Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:29). All of Nature’s foods are balanced
sources of protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals
(the natural medicines). Eat a wide variety in every category for the best
health.
•
Eleven cereal grains (barley, wheat, rye, spelt, millet, oats, etc.)
•
Sixty-four vegetables.
•
Beans, legumes, lentils, seeds and nuts.
•
Forty-six fruits.
•
Goats’ milk, eggs, cheese and butter were allowed.
•
God allowed “a little” honey.
Then
God cursed the soil and people began to lose their vibrant health.
B.
Plan B of the Original Diet.
In
Genesis 3:18 God added the green herbs of the field to their diet.
(Things
like garlic, capsicum, black cohost, bee pollen, parsley, black walnut, catnip
etc.).
C.
Plan C of the Original Biblical
Diet
In
Genesis 9:3 God added meat to the approved diet with carefully designed rules
to distinguish clean from unclean meats. See Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14
for guidance.
Modern-day
researchers confirm this information.
These
are the basic rules of a healthy diet.
A
very important last point is this: the quickest, easiest most accurate way to
evaluate the status of your own health (before doctors get involved)
is to test the pH of your saliva and urine.
MENDING BROKEN HEARTS
Dr. Mary Ruth Swope
The facts about heart disease in
America
An abstract of Dr. Colin
Campbell’s book:
THE CHINA STUDY.
You deserve to know:
• Heart disease has been the number
one killer since 1900.
• Nearly 1 million Americans die
annually of heart disease.
• All new medical procedures for
treating heart disease have not lowered death rates – just increased medical
costs.
• 3,000 Americans die of heart disease
every 24 hours.
• 40% of all American deaths are from
heart disease.
• Standard medical practice treats
only symptoms – not cause.
• Physician’s services totalled $78
BILLION in 2002 – not counting drugs, home health and nursing care.
• Your MD most likely has not studied
nutrition.
MEDICALLY
PROVEN FACTS FOR HEALING SICK HEARTS
• Heart disease can be prevented/cured
by diet alone.
• There is no “special diet” for heart
disease – a plant-based, whole food diet is the answer.
• Cleveland Clinic (Ohio) MD’s
successfully use whole, plant foods as their major treatment for heart disease.
• The closer patients adhere to this
the healthier they are.
• Blood cholesterol is an accurate
biomarker for heart disease.
• Cholesterol levels above 185 mg/dl
increase your chances of heart disease.
• A cholesterol level of 150 mg/dl or
less assures a zero chance of heart disease.
• Animal foods above 10% of total
calories increase risk of heart disease. (That’s no more than 200 calories/day!)
• Meat, milk, eggs and cheese increase
cholesterol; veggies, fruits, grains, beans, nuts and seeds do not!
• Consuming dairy products give adults
heart disease; children get juvenile diabetes.
• Vitamin and mineral supplements do
not heal sick hearts.
• Eating salmon or other fish with
scales and fins reduced ischemic stroke in men.
• Omega 3 & 6 oils may reduce
heart disease. Flax seed oil and olive oil are excellent sources.
• Complications of your $50,000
by-pass (or more) surgery is: heart attack, respiratory problems, bleeding,
infection, high blood pressure, stroke, loss of libido, loss of cognitive
function – and more. Within 10 years, 50% will have died. Within 3 years,
one-third will have chest pain again.

FACTS FOR DIABETICS TO
CONSIDER
By Dr. Mary Ruth Swope
The following information is taken
from Dr. Colin Campbell’s book, THE CHINA STUDY, and they correspond to my own
experience in nutritional education. This information is not meant to diagnose
or treat a medical condition or to cause you to not follow the directions of
your medical advisor.
􀂾 Obesity is almost always a
factor in diabetes,
􀂾 Diabetes usually comes to
adults around 40 yrs. old.
􀂾 recently, adult diabetes is
found in young people in 45% of cases.
􀂾 Juvenile diabetes is caused
by children drinking cow's milk.
􀂾 Modern drugs and surgery
offer no cure for diabetes because they do not treat the cause.
􀂾 Diabetes in the U.S. is big
business - about $30 billion a year.
􀂾 The right diet may prevent
and treat diabetes.
􀂾 Countries with high rates
of diabetes have accepted either a high fat or a high carbohydrate (CHO) diet.
􀂾 Research has proven a high
complex CHO diet with low-fat causes deaths to drastically decrease (20.4 to
2.9 per 100,000.)
The bottom line:
􀂾 HIGH COMPLEX CHO diets are
linked to low death rates from diabetes.
􀂾 Lower animal protein diets
result in lower incidence of diabetes.
􀂾 Western-type diets are
strongly associated with diabetes.
􀂾 Among Seventh Day
Adventists, the vegetarians had about 50% less diabetes than meat-eating
members.
􀂾 Grain-based diets result in
low incidence of diabetes.
􀂾 High fiber diets result in
low incidence of diabetes.
The bottom line:
􀂾 Whole plant based diets
prevent diabetes.
􀂾 Animal based diets result
in high incidence of diabetes.
Recommendations:
􀂾 Type 1 diabetics were able
in three weeks to lower their insulin shots by 40% by eating a veggie diet. Cholesterol
levels dropped by 30%. That means decreased likelihood of heart disease and
stroke.
􀂾 Type 2 diabetics fared even
better. In a matter of weeks, 24 out of 25 patients were able to discontinue their
insulin intake.
A PRESIDENT AGREES WITH KINGS
---
THERE IS A CONNECTION BETWEEN
FASTING
& PRAYER
Dr Mary Ruth Swope
We all have a great heritage for
respecting and fearing God. Let me read for you a portion of a proclamation
written over a century ago to help us appreciate our national history.
One of our most famous presidents
wrote: “We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. We have
been preserved for many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in
numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown.
“But we have forgotten God. We have
forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and
enriched and strengthened us. We have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of
our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and
virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken
success, we have become too
self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming grace, too proud to pray to
the God that made us!
“It behoves us, then, to humble
ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray
for clemency and forgiveness.
“Now, therefore, in compliance with
the request and fully concurring in the views of the Senate, I do, by this my
proclamation set aside March 30, 1863, as a day of national humiliation, FASTING
and PRAYER.”
He goes on to say “…this is authorized
by divine teachings, that he believes God will hear our prayers and will pardon
the sins of the nation and bring restoration, with unity and peace as the final
outcome.”
And who wrote this proclamation? It
was President Abraham Lincoln – one of the most respected presidents of the
United States.
Let me say, humbly, that I believe
there would be great merit in our day – even now, today and tomorrow, until He
comes again – for us to regularly declare times of individual and collective
fasting.
If I were to tell you that we, as the
body of Christ, RULE BY PRAYER, none would argue with me. But if I were
to tell you that FASTING greatly intensifies prayer, I might provoke
some controversy. Let me explain why I believe I’m right.
But first, let me make one observation
about the prayers of the Christians I’ve been exposed to for the past 60 years.
The
people I know pray for:
The sick, Pastors,
Missionaries, Shut-ins, Evangelists, The unsaved,
Family members, Local
church problems and Armed forces.
I have hardly ever heard Christians
pray for our government. Let me exhort all of us to spend more time praying for
the president and all our government leaders rather than criticizing and
maligning them. Our words, you know, either curse or bless. So let’s begin to
bless them.
We know God wants us to do this. The
Apostle Paul told Timothy to pray:
1st “…that supplications, prayers and
intercessions and the giving of thanks be made for all men,” and 2nd “…for
kings and all that are in authority.” Why? “That
we may lead a quiet and peaceable
life.” Why is that?
“That the gospel may be preached in
peace, that people might be saved and the community and nation become strong.”
So to what divine teachings was
President Lincoln referring? I’m not sure. But I am sure that he had 35 examples
in the Old and New Testaments to choose from. In studying these examples, I
found that the length of the fast could not be identified in the
majority of the fasts but 3 days was most often mentioned in the
records.
We know that a few saints fasted for
40 days – Moses and Elisha fasted without food or water and Jesus Christ
fasted without food.
Let’s look at a few examples, telling
very briefly who was involved, what the situation was and what they did and,
then, what happened:
I. Let’s begin with King David as
recorded in 2 Samuel, Chapter 1. His little child was ill. He fasted for
7 days, telling his servants, “While my child is alive, I will fast and
weep. Who can tell whether God will be gracious to me that my child will live.”
This shows me that David had probably
had prior experience with fasting. He knew that fasting and praying,
with weeping, in other words – humiliation before God – was the most powerful
thing he could do.
We all know the child was not spared.
But I would be willing to say that David did not regret his efforts to seek
Divine intervention for his little boy.
II. Let’s look at another situation:
In 2 Chronicles, Chapter 20, we read
about Jehosephat. He was expecting to be attacked by the Moabites and the
Ammonites and he was afraid. So he proclaimed a fast throughout
all Judah. People came out of the cities of Judah – even wives and children to
do what:
a.
To seek the Lord;
b.
Unite in declaring God to be their God;
c.
To fast and pray.
What happened? God told them: “Don’t
be afraid. The battle is not yours, but God’s.” What encouragement! God spoke
and said:
aa.
“You won’t need to fight;”
bb.
“Just stand still and watch God work;”
cc.
“I’ll tell you what to do and how to do it.”
dd.
He appointed singers, not soldiers. When they began to sing and praise God,
they won!
III. Corporate fasting is found
in Ezra, Chapters 7 & 8.
Ezra was a great spiritual leader. He
asked permission of the King to take a copy of God’s laws to Judah and
Jerusalem. He also wanted to take some gold and silver as an offering to the God
of Israel. He gathered about 200 priests and other countrymen to travel with
him. The he asked the men to fast and pray for 3 things:
i.
For a safe trip;
ii.
That they would be protected from bandits;
iii.
That their children would be safe during their absence.
What happened? They were protected and
kept safe from bandits!
IV. In the book of Esther there is
another record of the power of fasting. You know the story well but
allow me to remind you of the facts:
There was a plot to kill all the Jews.
The king had issued a proclamation to kill ALL Jews. That included men, women
and children in all the provinces. The date was set for February 28 of the
following year. In all the provinces there was great mourning, fasting, weeping
and despair at the king’s decree.
Then Esther, the queen, became
involved. She heard the whole story from her cousin, Mordecai. So she asked
Mordecai to gather all the Jews and fast for her – to not eat or drink
for 3 days. Esther and her maids also fasted.
“Then,” she said, “Though it is
strictly forbidden, I will go into the king to make my request.” She did and the
king gave her favour. He spared Mordecai from being hung on a gallows at the
hand of Haman.
In addition, the king reversed Haman’s
decree to destroy the Jews throughout all the king’s provinces. The Jews chose
the very same day, February 28th, to celebrate their victory.
Would it have happened this way without the
fasting and prayer?
There are 31 more illustrations to
draw from but let me remind you of a sad situation:
In Jeremiah 14, God told Jeremiah:
1. “Don’t pray for these people
anymore”;
2. “Don’t ask me to bless them”;
3. “They have not tried to follow my
ways.”
Then the people told God:
1. “Yes, we’ve sinned”;
2. “But help us for the sake of your
reputation”;
3. “We’re known as your people, we
carry your name”;
4. “You are passing through our land”;
5. “Are you helpless to save us?”
But the Lord replied to Jeremiah:
1. “Don’t ask me anymore to bless
them”;
2. “Don’t pray for them anymore”;
3. “When they fast I will not
pay any attention”;
4. “When they bring their offerings
and sacrifices, I will not accept them.”
5. “What I will give them in return is
war, famine and disease.”
So it is a sober thought! We can wander
away from God so far that He will refuse to bless us, even if we fast and pray.
Let us look at Isaiah 58 – this
chapter contrasts God’s and man’s ideas about fasting.
Man said to God: “We have fasted before
you. Why aren’t you impressed? Why don’t you hear our prayers. We’ve done MUCH
penance and you don’t even notice!”
God quickly answered them. “Because
you are living in evil pleasure, fighting and quarrelling while you are fasting
this kind of fasting will get you NOWHERE with me.”
Then He tells them the kind
of fast He wants:
1. “Stop oppressing those who work for
you”;
2. “Share your food with the hungry”;
3. “Bring those who need food right
into your home”;
4. “Feed the helpless, poor and
destitute”;
5. “Clothe those who are cold”;
6. “Don’t hide from your relatives who
need help.”
Now, listen to this – God
said, “If you do these things”:
1. “I will shed my own glorious light
upon you”;
2. “Your godliness will lead you
forward”;
3. “Goodness will be a shield before
you”;
4. “The glory of the Lord will protect
you”;
5. “When you call, the Lord will
answer you quickly”;
6. “Stop oppressing the weak”;
7. “Stop making false accusations”;
8. “Stop spreading vicious rumors”;
9. “Feed the hungry”;
10. “Help those in trouble”—
Then –
1. “Your light will shine out from the
darkness”;
2. “The darkness around you shall
become as bright as day”;
3. “The Lord will guide you
continually and satisfy you with
good things and keep you healthy”;
4. “You will be like a well-watered
garden, like an everlasting spring”;
5. “Your sons will rebuild the long
deserted ruins of your cities”;
6. “You will be known as “The people
who rebuild their walls and cities.”
To me, this is another illustration of
how great God’s generosity is in relation to the little He requires of us!
Do you recognize the depth of this
teaching? God is really showing them their own hypocrisy and weaknesses. The
people had a form of religion. They appeared to be godly. But they used their fast
days to work on their business, pay bills, and generally neglected the very
purpose of the fast.
God gave them a very similar message I
also heard from Dr. D. James Kennedy. He was describing the hypocrisy of
Christians in our day. He said God told him to tell the people: “Change your behaviour
or change your name.”
That’s harsh, eh!
Now, let’s focus on ourselves.
Can you believe, as I do, that America
has fallen to its lowest level of morality in this century? Do you see our leaders
in need of character reform? Reform is needed in church politics, in medicine,
in law and justice, in finances, in education, in technology, in the arts and
sciences – everywhere – we need to repent and seek
God’s forgiveness!
Do we need to intensify our prayers by
adding FASTING to our lifestyle? I believe we do. On the basis of scripture,
I believe we do.
Jesus knew all the spiritual atomic
weapons and I believe He shared them with his disciples. In the Sermon on the
Mount, Jesus told them to do three things:
1.
Give alms,
2.
Pray,
3.
Fast.
He assumes that those who follow Him
will do all three things. I say that because He said – WHEN you fast, WHEN
you pray and WHEN you give alms.
They had been doing these things since
the time of Moses.
It’s only in our
generation that FASTING has been dropped from the arsenal of God’s tools.
Fasting is especially
ordained for our day. Jesus said, “…that in those days in which He would not be
with us in person then shall they (the disciples) fast in those days.
Those days, my friends, are these days.
It is time that we learned,
individually and corporately, to learn to fast and pray.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU FAST
Dr. Mary Ruth Swope
It’s different with every
person. The stronger you are physically and spiritually, the less trouble you
will experience. If God askes you to fast… “it’s a piece of cake” all the way.
Basic guidelines:
• Restrict your activity.
• Expect changes in
elimination patterns. AIM’s Herbal Fiberblend will help cleanse your system.
• Be prepared for mental
discomforts. The devil and many of your friends don’t like what you are doing.
• You may feel impatient,
cranky, irritable, anxious and have self-pity. If so, PRAY, REST, WORSHIP.
• You may experience
physical “blah’s”. Sip water or juice or take a teaspoon of AIM’s BarleyLife, or
drink vegetable broth or lemon water.
• Probably the 2nd day is
the most difficult. Hunger leaves, usually, by this time. Some headaches, dizziness,
lethargic feelings are normal now due to a lack of caffeine and white sugar and
to the release of toxins from “everywhere”. A few persons are bothered by
sleeplessness and an overactive mind. A sort walk often corrects this.
• After the 3rd day, you
will experience a new mental vitality.
• Some lose lots of water
weight.
FASTING TIPS
• Take 1 teaspoon of AIM’s
BarleyLife in diluted juice or water first thing in the morning. You may have
up to 10 teaspoons spread throughout the day, if needed. This will help
eliminate the headaches, lethargy and the other “blah’s”.
• Make a Dr. Henry Bieler,
M.D., vegetable broth for liquid intake. In a large pot, combine:
zucchini carrots
potatoes green beans
onions celery & celery leaves
tomatoes crook-neck squash
cabbage turnips
salt to taste any vegetable you like
1 teaspoon chicken or beef bouillon may be added.
Cook, covered: The family
may eat the veggies – you just drink the broth. One quart per
day would be wonderful.
• Feel free to drink
freshly squeezed vegetable juices.
• Drink 64 oz. of pure water
per day. You may have all the herb teas you want – hot or cold. Have all of the
lemon water you want until you’ve had 1 full lemon per day. Dilute fruit juices
with ½ water. Limit the frequency of fruit juices due to the high sugar
content.
• Make a “Dr. Bill Bright”
drink to sip throughout the day:
􀂾 1 gallon distilled water
ô€‚ľ 1 ½ cup fresh lemon juice
ô€‚ľ ½ cup real maple syrup
ô€‚ľ ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
TAKE TIME
TO PRAY AND RELAX!
Listen to beautiful music.
Keep praising God for all
the good things you can think of!!!
Great physical and spiritual
benefits can be expected by all those who learn to FAST AND PRAY.
BIBLICAL ACCOUNTS ABOUT
FASTING
1. II Samuel 1:21 David’s
little child was ill. He fasted for 7 days and told his servants,
“…while he was alive I fasted and wept. Who can tell whether God will be
gracious to me that my child may live?
So, from this we see that David had
some knowledge or experience that taught him when circumstances are critical or
needs for Divine intervention are necessary for a happy ending to a situation –
fasting and prayer (humiliation before God) is the thing to do.
2. In II Chronicles 20, we read
where Jehoshaphat was expecting to be attacked by the Moabites and the Ammonites
and he was afraid. So he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. People
came out of all the cities of Judah – even wives and children to do what?
a.
To seek the Lord
b.

c.
To fast and pray

b. Just stand still and watch God

c. I’ll tell you what to do and how to

d. He appointed singers, not
soldiers. They began to sing and Praise God! They won!
3. Ezekiel 7th & 8th chapters:
Ezra is a great spiritual leader. He asks permission of the king to take a copy
of God’s laws to Judah and Jerusalem. He wants to bring back a report of the
religious progress being made there. He was also to take some gold and silver
as an offering to the God of Israel. So, Ezra gathered a large group of people
and priests to go along – some 220 men from many districts.
Then what? Ezra asked these leaders to
join him in humbling themselves before God prior to the trip.
They fasted and prayed for a
safe trip, for deliverance from bandits on the way, for the safe keeping of their
children. It says, “…that we might afflict ourselves before our God to seek of
Him a right way for us…. God protected us and saved us from our enemies and
bandits along the way. We arrived safely in
Jerusalem.” vs. 12
4. Esther 4: A plot to kill all
Jews, including women and children, was made by the king and this word was taken
to all the provinces. The date was set for February 28 of the following year. In
all the provinces there was great mourning among the Jews, fasting, weeping
and despair at the king’s decree.

She heard the whole story from her cousin, Mordecai. So she asked Mordecai to

In addition, the king reversed Haman’s
decree to destroy the Jews throughout all the king’s provinces.
The Jews chose the very same day,
February 28, to celebrate their victory.
Would it have
happened this way without the fasting and prayer?
5. Isaiah 58:3: This elegant
chapter shows us the contrast between God’s and
man’s ideas about fasting. Man said to
God: “We have fasted before you.
Why aren’t you impressed? Why don’t
you hear our prayers. We’ve done
much penance and you don’t even
notice!”
fighting and quarreling!
This kind of fasting will get you nowhere with me. … The kind of fast I want is
that you stop oppressing those who work for you, give your employees what they
have earned; share your food with the hungry; bring them right into your homes;
feed the helpless, poor and destitute; clothe those who
are cold and don’t hide
from your relatives who need help!”
Now, listen to this:
God said, “If you do these things:
a. God will shed His own
glorious light upon you.
b. He will heal you.
c. Your Godliness will
lead you forward.
d. Goodness will be a
shield before you.
e. The glory of the Lord
will protect you from behind.
f. When you call, the Lord
will answer.
g. Your light will shine
out from the darkness.
h. You shall be as bright
as day.
i. The Lord will guide you
continually.
j. The Lord will satisfy
you with all good things and keep you healthy.
k. You will be like a
well-watered garden, like an everlasting spring.
l. You will be known as
“The People Who Rebuild Their Walls and Cities.”
To me, this is another
illustration of how great God’s generosity is in relation to the little He
requires of us!
Do you recognize the depth
of this teaching?
God is really showing them
their own hypocrisy. And in addition, their
wickedness. The people had
a form of religion. They appeared to be godly.
But they used their fast
days to work on their business bookkeeping, to pay
their bills, etc.
I recently heard a message
from Dr. D. James Kennedy that contained a
description of the
hypocrisy of Christians in our day. He said God told him
to tell the people:
“Change your behaviour our change your name.”
That’s harsh, eh?
6. Jeremiah 14: This is a
case history of a situation where God told Jeremiah, the prophet:
a. Don’t pray for these
people anymore.
b. Don’t ask me to bless
them.
c. They have not tried to
follow my ways.
It is a sober thought that
we can wander away from God so far that He will refuse to bless us, even if wee
fast and pray.
7. Joel 1,2 & 3: In
these chapters we learn about the terrible conditions of the
land at this time in
history. All the crops failed. The cattle were without food
and water. There was not
even any meat offering or drink offering for the
priests.
Joel told them to sanctify
a fast. “Who knows? Perhaps even yet God will
decide to let you alone
and give you a blessing instead of His terrible curse.
Perhaps He will give you
so much you can offer your grain and wine to the
Lord as before.” vs.14
“Sound the trumpet in Zion!
Call a fast and gather all the people together for
a solemn meeting. Bring
everyone – the elders, the children and even the
babies.
“The priests and the
ministers of God will stand between the people and the
alter, weeping. They will
pray, Spare the people, O, our God. Don’t let them
be disgraced. Don’t let us
be a laughing stock….”
What happened?
The Lord did a mighty
miracle. Everything was restored. He gave them back
the crops that the locusts
had eaten. Once again they had all the food they
wanted.
“Praise the Lord who does
these miracles for you. Never again will your
people experience disaster
such as this. I alone am your Lord and God.”
vs.26-27
8. Jonah 3: 5-7 In this
story, God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and tell them that they were
going to be destroyed because of their wickedness.
But the very day that
Jonah entered into Nineveh and began to preach that they were going to be destroyed
in 40 days, the people repented. The people declared a fast. Everyone put on
sackcloth, rough course garments worn at times of mourning. They cried mightily
to God. They said, “Who can tell?
Perhaps even yet God will
decide to let us live and will hold back His fierce anger from destroying us. “And
when God saw that they had put a stop to their evil ways, He abandoned His plan
to destroy them and didn’t carry it through.” Jonah 3:30.
Prayer and fasting is the
answer.
